In this interview, we speak to Xiao Wen Goh, she creates work within the 4D department of Fine Art.

What is the title of your work?
"Traces".
Summarise the work in 5 words
Dark, pixelated, isolated,(?).

Talk us through the process of creating your work
My starting point for this video was listening to the wind blow through the trees in Waterlow Park. From there, I experimented with different ways in which I could place an emphasis on the sound. I decided that I would try the rotoscoping technique as part of the visual accompaniment to the audio to highlight aspects in the footage I shot.

For this project I used both Premiere Pro and Photoshop. I made a rough edit of the overall video and used that for rotoscoping. I started off the rotoscoping process in After Effects, but then realised that if it were done in Photoshop, I would have the option of exporting the animated/drawn parts as a separate video. This enabled me to play with layers in the final editing stage.
How is the work site-specific?
The work is work site specific as the footage I took was in Waterlow Park itself.
How did you conduct your research for the exhibition?
I watched a range of videos (documentary, short films, movies, music videos) to see how they used specific and varying locations and how they edited the overall video.
