In this interview, we speak to Sunny Blue Fulker that creates work within the 4D department of Fine Art.

What is the title of your work?
"Echo".
Summarise the work in 5 words
Sentimental,tranquil,spiritual,recollective,dreamlike.
Talk us through the process of creating your work
The context behind the choice of film format is twofold: on the one hand I have a passion for film based cinematography and this was my way of getting to grips with the medium. It was also a way of signifying its resurgence in the wider scheme of film production. On the other hand, once processed film provides this cinematic aesthetic which tends to be commonly associated with the past and so, by default, it has a relationship with the concept of time. “The weird uncanny feeling that emerges through maturity of realising you are a living human being: aware of the past that came before you and of the unknown future. It can be both beautiful and unsettling. You look at your peripheral vision and become more observant and aware of your actions and your place in this world.”
I watched the 1957 Ingmar Bergman’s "The Seventh Seal", and was inspired by his personifying the concept of Death. At first I was compelled to do the same with Time but I began to realise I was limited by time and so it was too big a task. I began focused on the cinematography side of the production. Shooting the film was spontaneous, I was without with a screenplay or solid narrative plot so all I had was the motivation to capture the moments in time that would otherwise never be repeated again.
How is the work "site-specific"?
It was filmed and captured in the Waterlow Park but I intended it to be more archetypal for being in any park, capturing a place of tranquility. I photographed in first person as to create an eye for the viewer - detached from any form of 3rd person camera angles – to let the camera take lead instigator for the narrative. This hopefully renders the narrative from the perspective of the audience and so it translates a more universal message, instead of it being specific to a single place or individual.
