In this interview, we speak to Sam Ng,he creates work within the 2D department of Fine Art.

What is the title of your work?

"Dependent Origination".

Summarise the work in 5 words

Serendipity, Communion, Accompany, Discrete, Fragile.

Talk us through the process of creating your work

As these pastel coloured threads represent people they get together and the linen with tie-dyed colour represents people who have fate to come together. I have just to believe that someone in our life is just a shadow, but someone is more than a shadow. This piece of work is to discuss the communion of us. As the process of tie-dye requires me to crumple a piece of fabric and then tie it. Then some colour left on the fabric while some are not. The inequality of the distribution of colour is a metaphor for the fate that makes us meeting someone or not meeting someone. "Meet as fate calls; separate when luck leaves", I would say cherish every single moment we have with someone we feel comfortable with.

This piece of work is developed and modified form the Corner Project which I was trying to put two painting together into one painting and the sewing between is a connection of both painting.

How is the work “site-specific”?

Park is somewhere you can meet many people but without (or with) a communion with them. I tried to figure out the circumstance of what a park actually is.
